Carpe Diem

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

Proverbs 27:1 NIV

I recently saw the statement, Carpe Diem, on a university logo. It caught my attention. I thought how wonderful for that institution to remind its students of a basic tenet in life.

But then I thought, doesn’t it apply to me, too?

Doesn’t it apply to you?

Seize the day!!

Carpe Diem!

Words that mean to grab today and hold on. Grip tightly and make the most of every minute.  Make the most of every opportunity—big or small.

And look for the blessings from the One who gave it to us!

I love how before any playwright or philosopher came up with such a statement, God was out front with it:

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

So, let me ask you, will you rejoice in this day?

Will you see it as a very gift from the Life Giver?

Days get tough, I know.

Life gets real tough, I know.

Burdens weigh us down, boy do I know.

But what if in the midst of all that, we grab the day and hold on to it as if it was the most precious item ever given to us?

What if we remind ourselves every few minutes, every few hours—today is a gift!

Oh my dear siblings, let us grab hold of today. Let us remind each other and ourselves that today, just today, is a mighty and grand gift from God. Every breath, every heartbeat, every minute ticked away on the clock is a gift. Let’s not squander away such a precious gift.

Seize it.

Make it meaningful.

Make it purposeful!
