God Loved Hitler

“I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”  Luke 15:10

It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that God loves those who do evil.

That He loves the gang members that have killed my friends.
That He loves the ones who abused my girlfriend.
That He loves the one who changed a child’s life forever.
That He loves the one who stole our possessions.
That He loves the one who invades my memory from time to time.

God hates evil, but He loves the ones who do it. Not as called children, but as lost souls.

God loved Hitler…and anyone else that has done the most egregious of crimes you can imagine. For His word tells us this truth. His word says, “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their wicked ways and live.” Ezekiel 33:11.

Up until the very last breath any of us have, God loves us so much, He wants us to turn from our ways and turn to Him. As angrily as it makes me feel, this includes all my foes. It includes those we think can’t change. It includes the worst of the worst. And it even includes those that aren’t the worst—just lost.

No matter your past, no matter your sins, no matter your shame, and even no matter your rejection of Jesus, there is room for you at God’s throne. There is no sin too great for the Father not to forgive. If He loves the worst, how much more is your Father willing to love you–faults and all?

Turn your hearts towards home. Give up of yourself and give in to His grace. You are loved—it’s time to run to the One who knows this.

You that it is funny that you write about this today. My husband and I just had this conversation not to long ago and it is hard for him to feel the same way and I always just tell him pray for them they are so lost. It almost hurts my heart to know that there are people out there that are so lost that they don’t know about our Wonderful Father.

    1. Yes, it’s difficult to pray for our foes but you’re right, we are called to do so. The beauty of our Lord is the hope for all–no matter where we land on the spectrum of “worst”, that is the heart of the message. Blessings to you Lori.
